Skellefteå, Sweden - January 25th 2026 - Following sold-out screenings and strong audience response at the Tromsø International Film Festival, the Swedish psychological thriller The Watchmaker is now screening as part of the official programme at the Göteborg Film Festival.
Directed by Jonas Lawes, The Watchmaker is a chamber thriller set in Stockholm, 1968. What begins as a minor theft develops into an increasingly intense moral and psychological confrontation inside a watchmaker’s workshop, where fear, loyalty, and distrust quietly take control and every decision feels irreversible.
Described by director Jonas Lawes during the Tromsø premiere as a “warm and cozy thriller,” the film combines intimate storytelling with emotional tension and moral complexity, rooted in the traditions of Nordic noir and European psychological cinema.
The film stars Otto Fahlgren, Hanna Alström, Olle Sarri, and Casper Berglund, whose restrained performances create a rare sense of intimacy and unease. Rather than relying on spectacle, The Watchmaker builds its atmosphere through silence, proximity, and emotional precision.
Produced independently on a focused budget and completed in just over a year, the film marks a confident feature debut for its creative team and has quickly gained attention for its visual quality, mature direction, and controlled storytelling.
